Introduction
Mianyang Polytechnic is a public higher-vocational (associate-degree) college in Mianyang, Sichuan, established by the Mianyang municipal government. It is NOT a bachelor's-degree-granting university -- it offers three-year diploma/associate-degree programs, primarily in engineering-adjacent fields such as materials, mechanical-and-electrical, information and construction engineering. It was one of the first batch of higher-vocational colleges established in Sichuan province and holds recognition as a national model vocational institution.
History
The college was approved for establishment by the Sichuan provincial government in 2001 and was among the first eight higher-vocational schools set up in the province. Some secondary sources attribute an earlier, unrelated 1933 predecessor (a glass-vocational school in Jiangsu province) to this institution; that lineage claim could not be verified against Mianyang Polytechnic's own official materials and appears likely to be a conflation with a different school -- it has been omitted from this record pending confirmation.
Campus & facilities
The campus is in Mianyang, an important technology and defence-research city in Sichuan province, and covers more than 700 acres with roughly 300,000 square meters of school buildings. It is organised into eight departments -- including materials engineering, mechanical-and-electrical engineering, information engineering, computer science, construction engineering, management engineering, humanities and art -- offering 55 higher-vocational majors.
Accommodation
International-student accommodation is not priced in the 2026 admissions notice reviewed. Contact the International Cooperation Office to confirm dormitory availability, room type and fees.
The area
The college is at No. 6 North Section of Xinyi Ring Road, Mianyang, Sichuan, and covers more than 800 mu.
