Introduction
Hubei University of Arts and Science is a provincial public university in Xiangyang, Hubei, offering a broad range of engineering, science, liberal-arts, medicine and management programmes across more than sixty undergraduate majors. Despite its English name, it is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary university rather than a specialist arts college, with a particular emphasis on engineering and transportation-related fields alongside its founding teacher-education roots. It is not a Project 211 or 985 institution and serves primarily as a regional undergraduate university for northwest Hubei.
History
The university's roots trace to Xiangyang Normal College, founded in May 1958. In 1998 it merged with the Xiangyang Normal Senior Vocational School, the Xiangfan Vocational University and the Xiangfan Education College to form Xiangfan College. Following the 2010 renaming of Xiangfan city to Xiangyang, the university was itself renamed Hubei University of Arts and Science in 2012, reflecting both the city's renaming and the institution's growth into a broader multi-disciplinary university.
Campus & facilities
The main campus is located on Longzhong Road in Xiangyang, Hubei, near the historic Longzhong scenic area associated with the Three Kingdoms period. Facilities support engineering, science, medicine, liberal-arts and management teaching, with a staff of over 1,700 including more than 1,200 full-time teachers. Student accommodation is provided in on-campus dormitories, and the campus location gives students access to Xiangyang's historical and cultural sites.
