Introduction
Hebei Normal University is a comprehensive provincial key university in Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei, and one of the oldest teacher-training institutions in China. It spans literature, history, philosophy, education, science, engineering, economics, law, management and the arts, and is the province's principal producer of secondary-school teachers and education researchers. Mathematics, biology, chemistry, Chinese language and literature, geography and physical education are among its strongest fields, several ranked first within Hebei. The university has doctoral programmes across multiple disciplines and hosts provincial key laboratories and research bases.
History
The university's origins go back to two teacher-training schools founded in Beijing in 1902 and in Tianjin in 1906. Through the twentieth century these evolved and relocated, and in 1996 several Hebei teacher colleges merged in Shijiazhuang to form the present Hebei Normal University. It has since built a large new main campus and gained doctoral-degree authority in a growing number of subjects.
Campus & facilities
The modern main campus in Shijiazhuang's Yuhua district is spacious and purpose-built, with additional older sites in the city. Facilities include provincial key laboratories in the life and physical sciences, observatories and museums, sports complexes, and extensive on-campus student housing. Shijiazhuang is on the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed rail line, about an hour from Beijing.
