Beijing Institute of Technology

Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) is a top-tier national research university in Beijing, supervised by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and included in Project 985, Project 211 and the Double First-Class initiative. It is one of China's strongest science-and-engineering universities, historically distinguished in defence technology, mechatronics, aerospace, materials, vehicle engineering, radar and information science, alongside growing programmes in management, design and the social sciences. BIT operates campuses in Beijing (Zhongguancun and Liangxiang) and a newer campus in Zhuhai, and maintains extensive international collaboration.

BIT originates from the Yan'an Academy of Natural Sciences, founded in 1940 -- the first science-and-engineering university established by the Chinese Communist Party. The institution moved several times during the 1940s and was reconstituted in Beijing, becoming Beijing Institute of Technology in 1952. It was among the first universities placed on the national key list, entered Project 211 and Project 985 in the 1990s, and joined the Double First-Class list in 2017.

The historic Zhongguancun campus sits in Haidian among China's leading universities and technology firms, with the larger Liangxiang campus in Fangshan District hosting most undergraduate teaching and research institutes. Facilities include national key laboratories, engineering test halls, wind tunnels and a supercomputing centre. Students live in on-campus halls; Beijing's subway serves both principal campuses.

BIT offers accommodation for international students on its Zhongguancun Campus and Liangxiang Campus in Beijing. Zhongguancun Campus On-campus dormitories with air conditioning, internet, bathroom, 24-hour hot water, kitchen and laundry facilities. Liangxiang Campus On-campus accommodation with private bathroom, kitchen and refrigerator, plus laundry facilities. Monthly cost: approximately CNY 500–1,350/person, depending on campus and room occupancy. Zhuhai Campus International student dormitories are also available, with shared rooms and private bathrooms.
