Introduction
Beijing Forestry University is a national key university in Haidian District, Beijing, directly under the Ministry of Education and part of Project 211 and the Double First-Class initiative. It is China's leading institution for forestry, landscape architecture, ecology, and environmental science, and also teaches biology, economics, management, engineering, law and the humanities. Forestry, landscape architecture and forest engineering are among its nationally top-ranked disciplines. The university plays a central role in China's afforestation, desertification-control and national-park research and has trained a large share of the country's senior forestry scientists and administrators.
History
The university's lineage reaches back to the 1902 Forestry Section of the Imperial University of Peking. It became an independent institute in 1952 through the merger of the forestry programmes of Peking University and other institutions, and was designated a national key university. In 1985 it broadened beyond forestry into electronics, computing, economics and psychology and adopted its present name. It joined Project 211 in the 1990s and the Double First-Class list in 2017, with forestry and landscape architecture named world-class disciplines.
Campus & facilities
The compact urban campus lies in Haidian, Beijing's university and technology district, next to the Old Summer Palace and within reach of the Fragrant Hills. It houses botanical gardens, arboreta, herbaria, wind-tunnel and soil-and-water laboratories, and a museum of forest biodiversity. Students live in on-campus halls; the city's subway network connects the campus to central Beijing.
Accommodation
The university offers international student accommodation in Building 9, on the western side of campus. Single and double rooms. Shared bathrooms and showers, separated by gender. Air conditioning, refrigerator, wardrobe, desk, and internet access. Shared kitchens and 24-hour hot water.
